Girls Golf Earns State Reserve Championship

Girls Golf Earns State Reserve Championship

Springfield Catholic Girls Golf has a tradition of excellence, both as a team and by producing top individual competitors. This success has moved the Lady Irish up to the largest class in the Missouri High School Athletics Association due to the Championship Factor applied to private schools.  With a school enrollment of less than 300 students the Lady Irish would fall in Class 2 but they are now competing against schools of 1500+ students in Class 4.

The Class 4 MSHSAA State Championship was hosted in Sedalia, Missouri October 20th-21st, 2025.  The first round had the Lady Irish sitting in 7th as a team. An incredible run on day 2 moved the Lady Irish to a second place finish.  With the Championship Factor in place for a 6 year cycle, the Irish will continue to compete in the top division for many years to come.

"Today, the girls showed a lot of experience in Sedalia, MO.  In the tough, windy conditions on Monday, the girls played solidly when the pressure was on and posted a solid 345 team score and were in 7th place after day one.  But, within reach of the 14 strokes of 2nd place. As a team, we all thought, if we could shave 5 - 7 strokes, individually, we would have a chance to leapfrog the field. They improved by 30 strokes as a team.  We finished off an exciting and fun day of golf. We had an incredible run on day 2.  The top of the order played solidly, but we received great play from Sarah Han (80) and Olivia Tiedemann (83). We knew early in the round that the field was coming back to us.  Grace Tiedemann led the way with a great 72 and finished an unbelievable golfing career for the Lady Irish. She finished like an all-stater, with a 5th-place finish overall in the top 15 individuals.  "She played awesome the whole time."  Grace, once again, played like one of the top women's individuals in the state.  Ava Tiedemann played well under pressure and finished off a mission with a great round of golf, 80 and 15th overall. She finished right on the number.  She birdied and parred on #17 and #18 to finish.  This young lady can handle some pressure.  With the MSHSAA App, you can track the flow of the tournament.  And, early, we could tell what was happening.  We came out of the gates playing solid as a team.  All of a sudden, we were climbing a ladder.  Ray-Pec, the 2025 Class 4 State Team Champion, was too far ahead.  They were too good a team, to fall back that far.  But not the rest of the field.  We started gaining confidence and started a run, as a team, with solid and timely play to complete an absolutely awesome day.  Our kids, parents, and I got to witness a day that I have never experienced before.  And, I'm an old man.  That's a day of fun.  What I was most proud of was that the girls jumped into 2nd place and held firm the rest of the day to finish a great experience for our kids." During the Lyla Louderbough, Kayla and Kyleigh Pfitzner and Reagan Zibilski eras, Catholic brought home state titles in 2019 (Class 1), 2020 (Class 2) and 2021 (Class 3).  Springfield Catholic has competed as a Class 4 school in girls golf since 2022. This is their first Second Place State Finish since 2018, when they competed as a Class 1 school and started tallying up Championship Factor points.
