"Still Fightin" on a New Field

By SCHS junior Drake Rowe

The start of the season for the Springfield Catholic Fightin' Irish football team has been a great one with a record of 4 wins with only one close loss as of week five. The Fightin' Irish have had a rough couple of years up to last year with a winning record of 6-4, and the Irish only plan to improve that. Senior offensive star Trey Buster gave his views on this season. "We have a great group of guys. Everyone's been really excited and thankful to get to play on our new turf," Trey said. A lot has been going on throughout the off season for The Fightin' Irish, such as the new turf and also the new track coming sometime within this school year. The turf was finally finished a week before the Irish dominated the Strafford Indians in a 42-0 win. Students claim the new turf provides the ability to be quicker, and it also provides a softer surface upon impact. The Irish have two regular season home games left in the 2017-18 football season, hosting Buffalo and school rival Rogersville. The Fightin' Irish football team seem to have a positive outlook and plan to power through the rest of the season on a fantastic new field.
