Irish take home Clever Invitational Title

CLEVER, MO — After victories over Aurora and Mt. Vernon, the Irish faced off with Class 2 powerhouse Hartville on Saturday night. The Hartville Eagles advanced to the finals with victories over Fair Grove (68-43) and Class 1 state champion Walnut Grove (87-81). 

The Irish came out of the gate quick taking the early lead aided by 7 first quarter points by senior Brett Maes. The Eagles faught back in the 2nd quarter outscoring the Irish 15-13 but the Irish kept a 1 point lead to the half (29-28).

The two teams battled back & forth throughout the 3rd quarter and for most of the 4th, changing leads 15 times in the process. The 4th quarter would prove to be the difference maker. The Irish outscored the Eagles 23-17 in the final quarter led by junior Jake Branham who dropped in 12 of his game high 22 points during that time. The Irish won the rebounding battle 31-24 with a game high 12 from senior Ian Cochran

Catholic's Jake Branham and Ian Cochran were named to the 84th Annual All-Tournament team. 

The Irish will be off until next Saturday (12/9) when the face Confluence Prep Academy in the Glendale Shootout.
